Look at the work.
More?
I always wanted to have that as my stand-alone artist's statement.
Clement Greenberg, an art critic said that if the artist has to explain his work, he did not want to hear it.
Two additional thoughts:
- When I finish a work, it is an answer to a question I posed to myself. (Think mathematician solving a problem.) It goes out into the world and I have no control of what happens to that piece. It is like children going off into the world and as a parent you cannot know that world.
- 911 affects all of us. In my case there was little call for art from before. Now, I am making new work reflecting my current experience and worldview.
