First Rhinoceros Desk

First of three different rhinoceros desks

Displayed in 1979 at the American Craft Museum in New York, this piece is currently residing in a collection in Europe.

Made like an airplane, using ribs and struts, it is covered with a thin sheet of eighth inch plywood covered with pieces of wood (koa) applied like tiles.

Inspired by the Han Dynasty Jade suit shown in Washington DC following the opening of China in the seventies this piece represents my eureka moment in finding a way to cover a large shape in an interesting way.

Red River The Steer

Also a Desk, Red River became a Neiman Marcus "His and Hers Gift" for 1984.

White Rhino

Although it is black in appearance a white rhino is a certain type with the wide mouth. These are larger than the black rhino with the pointed snout.
