For thirty years Alden Peterson, John Reisner and friends, (Alumni of the Class of 1960 at Laurelhurst School, Portland Oregon) have played football on the Oregon Coast at the Carl G. Washbourne Memorial Park, Florence Oregon. This event is steeped in tradition.
The "Washbourne" started out with two days of golf on Thursday and Friday. Following golf on Friday, John Reisner cooked a great dinner that included three kinds of soup with four main courses and two wonderful desserts.
Saturday is the main event. Shortly after breakfast we went to Carl G. Washbourne Memorial Park and played Zen football. Injuries are a concern. The defibulator came in handy. It held down the cover on Dennis Fraser's cooler as the hard steady wind would have blown the cover away.
Following the game was the group photo, cigars and refreshments at Devil's Elbow State Park, a few miles away, and a second three ball pool tournament at a local cowboy bar. Later we had an awards banquet at the Elks Club, Garman was MVP and more poker at Reisner's house.
We learned a new term. To "be Brillo…ed" is to win money at the poker table from Hoevet . The cool thing is you don't even have to be Brillo to do it. Even Fraser "Brillo…ed" Hoevet.
Here are the first pictures from the just completed "30th Annual Washbourne Memorial Classic".
